Southern California is a nature lover’s paradise, and there are plenty of hikes near Los Angeles that the whole family can enjoy. Whether you’re looking for an easy stroll through the woods or a challenging hike with breathtaking views, you’ll find it all within a short drive of LA. Here are five of our favorite family-friendly hikes near Los Angeles.

Eaton Canyon Falls: This 3-mile round trip hike in Pasadena is perfect for families with small children. The trail follows a streambed to a 40-foot waterfall, and there are plenty of places along the way to stop and explore. Keep your eyes open for wildlife—you might see ducks, turtles, rattlesnakes and even deer along the way.

Topanga State Park: There are over 36 miles of trails to choose from. The park is located in the Santa Monica Mountains, so there are plenty of opportunities for stunning views. We recommend the Eagle Rock Loop Trail, a 3-mile hike that takes you past waterfalls, wildflowers, and native plants.

Griffith Park: At 4,310 acres, Griffith Park is one of the largest urban parks in the country. The park has over 50 miles of hiking trails, so you could spend days exploring all it has to offer. Our second favorite trail is the Mt. Hollywood Trail, a moderate 3-mile hike with great views of downtown LA and the Hollywood Sign. and our favorite one starts at the front os the observatory! when you reach the entrance, look for a small trail on your left If you are facing the building. You can go as far as you want and turn back when you want and you will get stunning views of the city! plus the observatory is in my opinion, a must when visiting LA!

Los Leones Trail: This moderate 4-mile hike in Pacific Palisades offers incredible ocean views. The trailhead is located just off Pacific Coast Highway, so it’s easily accessible even if you don’t have a lot of time. If you’re looking for an easier option, there’s also a shorter 1-mile loop that starts at the same trailhead.

Malibu Creek State Park: Malibu Creek State Park is home to over 8,000 acres of wilderness, including rocky peaks, grassy meadows, and oak groves. There are dozens of trails to choose from, ranging from easy to difficult. One of our favorites is the Crags Road Trail, a moderate 4-mile hike that takes you past towering cliffs and cascading waterfalls.

If you're up for an adventurous day, go and find the best option for your needs and explore this beautiful land we get to call home!
